Warwickshire, UK
Business
Our client employs thousands of people across hundreds of UK sites. It is a long established and highly respected name in its market and has rapidly revised, renewed and enhanced its operations, culture and performance in recent years.
The whole business is aligning more closely with its customers, its suppliers and increasingly its staff. As a B2B2C specialist, there is considerable value to its customers in the knowledge and expertise of its people. Therefore, a strong emphasis on engagement, support and advice exists at every level in the business. Great relationships with its people are part of their “new normal”. Collaboration and communication are cornerstones of the culture, with the HR function – and the HRD in particular – major contributors to its continuing success.
Role
Reporting directly to the CEO and Board, the HRD is a key member of the senior executive. As such the HRD has direct input to the formulation and realisation of company strategy, which will be expected and encouraged. There is a substantial Human Resources function under the HRD managed through a handful of direct reports who will require clear leadership and motivation to achieve what is required of them. Priorities include: Organisational Design, to align operations with strategy; Reward & Recognition, to ensure coherent and consistent incentivisation across the company (including for senior executives); Training, Learning & Development, to deliver the upskilling of an already experienced and knowledgeable workforce; Recruitment & Retention, to safeguard a mix of capabilities that is fit for future purpose; and Employee Engagement, to engender a collaborative and mutually supportive culture. Above all, the HRD role requires pragmatism, problem-solving and innovative ideas that can be enacted robustly but considerately to add demonstrable value to the employee experience, as well as to profitability. The HRD must establish themselves quickly, instil confidence in those around them and develop strong working relationships, especially with the CEO, CFO and the others on the Executive Team.
