Our client is a publicly listed, mid-market, Tier1 supplier of precision-engineered assemblies and sub-systems to OEMs of vehicles in automotive, construction, agricultural, HGV and off-road markets around the world. It has a number of production plants located around the world in Europe, Asia and the Americas. It is a very successful and growing business, despite the economic shocks arising from Coronavirus, making strong margins across a broad range of products. Innovation and New Product Development are at the core of its success and underpin its future growth strategy as its offerings are based on well-designed precision-engineered solutions to customer problems – never on reactive discounting.

Role

The company wishes to appoint a new Group MD, to work closely with and report directly to the CEO, and taking full P&L responsibility for this international business comprising five Business Units on four continents. This company supplies some of the world’s biggest and best-known OEMs, all of whom value their relationship with this company as a strategic business partner, which the Group MD will be expected to maintain and enhance. They will also be a key member of the Executive and must develop and deliver commercial strategies to align with the Group Plan. In addition to sales and profit growth, they will also be accountable for Health & Safety, New Product Development, quality, financial reporting and compliance, customer relationships, engineering, contract negotiations and the leadership – through a capable management team of direct reports – of hundreds of people. This is an international multi-cultural business with a very flat structure, and the Group MD must engage with people and lead them by both example and inspiration, with ambition, energy and focused determination.

Candidate

This role would suit a high-flyer with aspirations to reach the very top. A combination of big-company early career experience allied with more recent success as an established MD with a hands-on style in a £50m to £500m autonomous business would be preferred. It is expected that the successful candidate will possess:

• An Engineering and/or relevant Business degree
• Experience at board/director level in a large SME and/or Mid-Market PLC
• First-hand knowledge of Tier1 supply chains into OEMs
• Familiarity with design, manufacture and assembly of precision-engineered products
• Prior responsibilities for P&L, operations, sales, engineering and people
• A background in multi-site manufacturing, internationally
• Demonstrable success in driving sales and profit growth
• Proven commercial instincts and financial acumen
• Ambition and personal drive
• Unimpeachable integrity

Package: c.£180,000 Basic + 30% Bonus + LTIPs + Car + Exec Benefits (+ Relocation)
